BACON CONNOISSEURS’ WEEK (16 - 23 February 2008)
Who can resist the tempting aroma and mouth-watering taste of bacon? It is little surprise that the delicious meat has been part of the British culture for centuries, with our ancestors enjoying a traditional breakfast of bacon and eggs as far back as 1560. What most of us don’t realise is that there are a multitude of scrumptious cures now available for us to try - with flavours ranging from black treacle to cherry.
Bacon Connoisseur’s Week has been established to give bacon buffs the chance to learn more about the many different varieties of premium bacon available today, and indulge by sampling some of our nation’s finest cures. Leading journalist and campaigner for exquisite food, Janet Street Porter, is the celebrity face of Bacon Connoisseur’s Week 2008 and is heading the expert panel in the search for The Cure for Modern Times.
Chefs, butchers and supermarkets are invited to enter their best ever bacon cures for this national competition, with a selection of the winning cures available for consumers to enjoy throughout this special week.
Watch out for bacon offers and promotions in local supermarkets and butchers, and bacon-themed menus in pubs and restaurants throughout the week. And for those of you that would prefer to relish bacon dishes in the comfort of your own home, the Bacon Connoisseur’s team have created a bacon recipe booklet filled with mouth-watering, yet easy to prepare, dishes (available to download from www.lovebacon.info).
