What is the Quality Standard Mark?
The Mark was first introduced in 1999 to differentiate pork, bacon and ham produced to high standards of animal welfare, production methods and quality control systems. A major feature of the Quality Standard Scheme is that it is subject to independent audit throughout the supply chain.

Why has the Mark been redesigned?
While quality remains the primary concern of the Scheme, the new Mark also incorporates a national flag to indicate country of origin. British pork and pork products that meet the requirements of the BPEX Quality Standard will display the Mark with the Union flag. The new Mark also allows suppliers of imported product that satisfies the high standards of the Scheme, to use the Mark along with the appropriate national flag to indicate country of origin. The redesigned Mark therefore gives your customers the opportunity to choose to buy BPEX Quality Standard product from home or abroad. Awareness and demand for the new-look Mark is expected to significantly increase as a result of the national advertising campaign.

What are the benefits of using the Mark for me as a butcher?
Butchers stocking BPEX Quality Standard pork, bacon and ham should expect an increase in demand for pork and pork products carrying the Mark as a result of the advertising campaign.
